You can get more from your AK47 by mounting a scope or optic to it. You can shoot farther and with more accuracy than when using the standard iron sights. However, an AK scope mount requires more than just a set of rings and a rail. An AK 47 scope mount starts with a side plate, because an AK cannot support a rail on the top. The AK side-rail mount rivets to the side of the AK. Carolina Shooters Supply has several versions of a side mount to fit AKs and variants.

With the side rail on, you can place an AK side scope mount on the rail. This puts a Picatinny rail over the dust cover, so you can mount a scope with a set of rings just as you would on most other rifles. The scope mount fits into the AK dovetail mount on the side plate.
